Kevin Richard Ebbert 1980-2012
Kevin was born January 23, 1980, and grew up in Arcata, CA. As a boy, he loved backpacking, rafting, drawing and the outdoors. As a young adult, he played Ultimate Frisbee, was an accomplished musician, loved learning and was an avid reader throughout his life. Kevin grew into a caring man who practiced his values, lived by his ideals and was committed to helping others.
Kevin graduated from Arcata High School, received a bachelor’s degree in music from UC Santa Cruz and became an active duty Navy SEAL and corpsman. He hoped to build on his training as a corpsman to pursue a career as a physician helping serve those most in need.
On December 31, 2011, Kevin married Ursula (Jansson) Ebbert, also from Arcata. The couple shared a love of the outdoors, recently purchased their first home in Virginia Beach, VA and enjoyed many family gatherings.
Kevin was killed during combat operations on November 24th, 2012 while on his second combat deployment to Afghanistan as a combat corpsman with SEAL Team Four. Kevin is survived by his wife, Ursula Ebbert, his mother Charlie Jordan and sister Samantha Ebbert Martinez, as well as stepsisters Amy Funk and Kate Renner, stepfather Mark Ritz, mother-in- law Susan Jansson, father-in- law Erik Jansson. He was preceded in death by his father Jeffery Ebbert, a retired Navy SEAL, both grandmothers, Patricia Ebbert and Marie Jordan Barnes, and both grandfathers Richard Ebbert and James Jordan.
Kevin is remembered in many ways, from his family and friends that keep him alive in their hearts to the annual Kevin Ebbert Memorial Events. This year, we are sponsoring our first annual Fundraiser Golf Tournament, which continues to be a celebration of all things Kevin loved (nature, physical challenges, teamwork, & fun) and a tribute to those still serving our country.
Previous Kevin Events also served as fundraising efforts for the Kevin Ebbert Memorial Fund, which was managed by the Humboldt Area Foundation. In 2024, the Kevin Ebbert Foundation was founded as a stand-alone 501c3 non-profit organization. This year and beyond, proceeds will be donated to the Kevin Ebbert Foundation to support grant making efforts in four categories:
Medical students studying to be General Practitioners and supporting traveling doctors and nurses
Environmental research and conversation efforts
Veteran services with a focus on Special Operations Veterans
Students seeking music degrees or professions
These four areas of focus represent Kevin’s most prominent values and interests. If you would like to donate to the Kevin Ebbert Foundation, please click the button below.
